| Cycling Marathon Tour de LatEst, July 11th – 24th, 2010 | | |
Dear friends,
Estonia and Latvia are two neighbouring countries and there is a lot of common in the history, nature and people of the two nations in Southern Estonia and Northern Latvia regions. Both regions can be proud of the beautiful nature, nice small towns, rich culture heritage and living traditions, there are only few industrial areas and the traffic is rather calm . It is a really nice region for those travelling by bike. The best way to understand that is to come, to cycle and to see it yourself.
According to the goals of the project „ViSoEst by Bike“ a new bicycle route has been developed. The route is called Tour de LatEst, with the total length of 1296 km, half of which going through Estonia, and half - Latvia. The opening event of the new route will be held on July 11th – 24th, 2010. The cyclists will be invited to ride 1000 km in 2 weeks, approximately 70 km per day on average. For accommodation campsites (tenting), tourism farms etc. will be booked. Participants will be served breakfast and supper, some technical support, luggage transportation and sauna/ shower will be organized. Joint entertainment activities for the participants will be organized several times during the Ride. The services incl. 2 meals per day are free of charge for first 90 registered participants.
The Marathon will start on 11th July in Sigulda (LV), easily accessible by train from Riga. The first 2,5 days the participants will cycle through Latvia (Sigulda – Ligatne – Cesis – Smiltene – Valka) and after crossing the border in Valga the next 7 days will be spent in Estonia (Valga – Viljand – Elva – Elistvere – Alatskivi – Tartu – Otepää - Karula NP). The last 5 days will again be spent in Latvia (Ape-Aluksne – Gulbene – Cesvaine – Madona – Ergli - Sigulda). The participants are invited to participate and cycle the full length of the route, as well as only single parts of the route.
